What Are TIG Tungsten Electrodes?

Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding is a popular type of welding that utilizes tungsten electrodes to join various metals. The tungsten electrode is a critical component in the process, as it channels the current required to establish the arc. The tungsten electrodes can be alloyed with a variety of metals. Different types and sizes of electrodes are used for different types of welds and materials, and welders develop preferences based on welding style and project. Certain electrode types perform better with alternating current (AC) as opposed to direct current (DC).

These are a 7" Rare Earth Tungsten Electrodes with 3/32" Diameter, sold each.

Genuine Weldcraft™ 7-inch, 3/32 diameter rare earth tungsten electrode is made from a combination of oxides and is not radioactive, like thoriated tungsten. It is suitable for use in AC and DC TIG welding applications. The multiple oxide alloy in rare earth tungsten extends electrode life and improves performance.

Features

  • Excellent performance in both AC and DC TIG welding applications

  • Longer electrode life

  • Non-radioactive - replaces and outperforms 2% thoriated (radioactive) tungsten.
