What Are TIG Tungsten Electrodes?

Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding is a popular type of welding that utilizes tungsten electrodes to join various metals. The tungsten electrode is a critical component in the process, as it channels the current required to establish the arc. The tungsten electrodes can be alloyed with a variety of metals. Different types and sizes of electrodes are used for different types of welds and materials, and welders develop preferences based on welding style and project. Certain electrode types perform better with alternating current (AC) as opposed to direct current (DC).

These are a 7" 2% Thoriated Tungsten Electrodes with 1/8" Diameter, sold each.

Thorium-Dioxide-Doped Tungsten Electrodes Containing 1.8% - 2.2% THO2. The most common type of electrode used on carbon and stainless steel. The higher thoria content in the EWTh-2 electrode causes the operating characteristic improvements to be more pronounced than in the lower thoria content EWTh-1. To use Thoriated electrodes for alternating current welding.

Features

  • Adheres to American Welding Society standard A5.12M/A5.12:2064.
  • Promotes Reliable Arc Striking and low burn off rate.
  • Premium alloy composition to promote longevity of tungsten electrode.
  • Longer life than 1% Thoria while providing easy arc starting, stable arc, higher current capacity and increased resistance to weld pool contamination.
  • Electrodes are 100% Eddy Current tested.
