What Are Stick Electrodes?

Welding electrodes are metal wires with baked on chemical coatings. The rod is used to sustain the welding arc and to provide the filler metal required for the joint to be welded. The coating protects the metal from damage, stabilizes the arc, and improves the weld. The diameter of the wire, less the coating, determines the size of the welding rod. This is expressed in fractions of an inch such as 3/32", 1/8", or 5/32." The smaller the diameter means it requires less current and it deposits a smaller amount of filler metal.

These are a pound (1lb) of 14" Fleetweld Mild Steel Stick Electrodes with 5/32" Diameter, 6013 AWS Classification

A terrific all-position electrode for low amperage welding on sheet metal - especially in applications where appearance is important. We've designed Fleetweld 37 for excellent performance with smaller AC welders having low open-circuit voltages. It's an excellent choice for jobs involving irregular or short welds that require a change in position. Designed primarily for welding on new, clean steel, this electrode is an all purpose, all position electrode with a stable easily handled Arc. Spatter loss is low and the weld metal solidifies quickly leaving a closely rippled deposit with good appearance.

Features

  • An all position electrode for the welding of mild steel

  • Excellent choice for sheet metal lap and fillet welds

  • Superior slag control, which makes it a great choice for vertical down

  • General purpose plate welding and maintenance

Applications

  • Sheet metal
  • Irregular short welds that change positions
  • Maintenance or repair welding
  • For use with small AC welders with low OCV
