Steel Tank Fabrication

Here at Steel and Pipes we fabricate steel tanks of all shapes, sizes, and material. The process is as follows:

  • Design: The first step in the fabrication process is designing the tank. This involves determining the tank's dimensions, capacity, and other specifications such as the thickness of the steel walls, the number and placement of ports and fittings, and the shape of the tank.
  • Material Selection: The next step is selecting the appropriate steel for the tank's construction. Factors such as the type of material to be stored in the tank, the tank's intended use, and the environment in which the tank will be located all play a role in determining the type and grade of steel used.
  • Cutting and Shaping: Once the design is finalized and the steel is selected, the next step is cutting and shaping the steel into the required pieces. This is typically done using cutting machines such as plasma cutters or laser cutters, and the pieces are then formed into the required shapes using rolling machines, bending machines, and other metalworking equipment.
  • Welding: The pieces of steel are then welded together to form the tank's shell. This is typically done using automated welding machines, although some smaller tanks may be welded by hand. The welding process is critical to ensure that the tank is structurally sound and leak-free, so quality control and testing are important during this step.
  • Surface Treatment: Once the tank is fully welded, the surface is treated to remove any impurities, such as rust or oil, that could compromise the integrity of the tank. This may involve sandblasting or chemical treatment to prepare the surface for painting or coating.
  • Painting and Coating: The final step is to paint or coat the tank to protect it from corrosion and to provide a finished appearance. Different types of coatings and paints may be used depending on the tank's intended use and the environment in which it will be located.

Overall, the fabrication of a steel tank is a complex process that requires careful attention to detail and quality control at every step to ensure a safe, durable, and effective end product.
