What Are Stick Electrodes?

Welding electrodes are metal wires with baked on chemical coatings. The rod is used to sustain the welding arc and to provide the filler metal required for the joint to be welded. The coating protects the metal from damage, stabilizes the arc, and improves the weld. The diameter of the wire, less the coating, determines the size of the welding rod. This is expressed in fractions of an inch such as 3/32", 1/8", or 5/32." The smaller the diameter means it requires less current and it deposits a smaller amount of filler metal.

These are a pound (1lb) of 14" Mild Steel Stick Electrodes with 1/8" Diameter, E6013 AWS Classification.

Lincoln Electric® Fleetweld® 37 Stick Electrode measuring 1/8" X 1/4" is ideally designed for low amperage welding on sheet metal where bead appearance is crucial. It features magnificent slag control makes it ideal for vertical down. It renders superior performance for small AC welders with low open-circuit voltages. It can be used for sheet metal, maintenance or repair welding and irregular short welds that change positions applications.

Applications

  • D fillet welds
  • Irregular or short welds that change direction or position, and downhill fillets and laps.
  • Mild steel
  • Small AC welders with low OCV
